Paul-Scherrer-Institut
The Technology Assessment group is part of the multi-disciplinary Laboratory for Energy systems Analysis (LEA) at the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) and is the continuation of the former GaBE Project. Technology Assessment incorporates a comprehensive range of research areas to achieve three main objectives:
- To improve understanding and thereby enable comparisons of current energy technologies and future energy options of the electricity, heating and transport sectors based on environmental, economic and socially relevant factors.
- To provide quantitative, systematic, and interdisciplinary assessments of energy technologies and energy supply strategies through the development and application of consistent and methodological frameworks and databases.
- To support rational decision-making for sustainable development in the Swiss and international energy sectors, and to communicate balanced research findings to decision-makers and stakeholders.
Christian Bauer has been working since 2004 at the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) as a scientist in the in the Technology Assessment group, also called the group for the Comprehensive Assessment of Energy Systems (TA/GaBE). The TA group is part of the Laboratory for Energy Systems Analysis (LEA) which has been established in the beginning of 2006 (formerly Systems Analysis Section). His current activities within the group focus on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of current and future energy systems and on sustainability assessment of energy systems in general.
Within PSI's work for the Energieperspektiven 2035/2050 of Swiss Federal Office of Energy (BFE), he authored the chapter on small hydro and co-authored the chapters on wind energy, photovoltaic, and biomass. Further responsibilities contained organizational and coordinative project support as well as preparation of several presentations and the final report.
